On September 10-12, AGENDA attended the ASEAN Civil Society Conference/ASEAN People’s Forum 2019 in Bangkok. The theme was “Advancing Peoples’ Movement for Justice, Peace, Equality, Sustainability and Democracy in Southeast Asia.” AGENDA held a session called “The ASEAN Enabling Masterplan 2025: Creating Civil Society Partnership for Inclusive and Diverse Political Participation” on September 11. The session included presentations by the Representative of Thailand to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), TAB, and AGENDA’s Philippines partner, the Center for Advocacy, Learning and Livelihood (CALL) Foundation of the Blind, Inc. Thirty people, including 12 women, from five countries participated in the session. Participants learned about AICHR’s process in developing the Masterplan and the benefits of continued collaboration between disabled people’s organizations (DPO) and other civil society organizations (CSO). One participant shared existing practices in Vietnam to support persons with disabilities, such as a mobile map application that provides information on accessibility for persons with disabilities in particular areas.
