National Council for the Blind, Malaysia (NCBM) hosted its second regional awareness workshop in Kinabalu, Sabah. 86 participants attended the workshop, 44 of which were women, representing 11 non-government organizations (NGOs) and 22 government agencies. NCBM introduced the ASEAN Enabling Masterplan 2025: Mainstreaming the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (Masterplan) and consulted with stakeholder participants to assess the prioritized areas in their policy platform. Participants agreed with the existing policy priority order: education, accessibility, and participation in decision making. Sabah Minister of Health and People’s Well-being Frankie Poon signed a certificate to demonstrate his commitment to implementing the Masterplan. Minister Poon also announced the formation of a Sabah Disability Rehabilitation Council to raise awareness of and empower the disability community in education, employment, and entrepreneurship, and called for the public and private sectors to increase employment opportunities for persons with disabilities
